Manager's Office

Overview: At its meeting on May 28th, 2020, the Orange County Climate Council (OCCC) voted in support of sending a letter to Governor Roy Cooper that makes a case for linking COVID-19 relief funding to broader improvements to public health and resilience. As part of the OCCC's action, the Council asked that the final version of the letter (attached) be sent to the four Orange County local government elected boards to ask for endorsement before sending the letter to the Governor.

Recommendation(s):
That the Council endorse the attached letter from the OCCC to Governor Cooper.

Fiscal Impact/Resources: There is no direct financial impact associated with the endorsement of the attached letter. The letter supports the idea that the state can help local government economic recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic, and that this support will have the greatest impact if it addresses immediate budgetary needs, supports local jobs, reduces expenses for governments or citizens, and improves the quality of life.
