SUBJECT: Recommendation for the vacancy(s)

RECOMMENDATION: The Historic District Commission met on September 23, and November 2, 2020 and made the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:
• Sean Murphy (Reappointment)
• Cathy Brigham, Resident
• Anne Perl De Pal, Resident
• Maria (Polly) Van De Velde, Resident
SPECIAL REQUEST(s): None
BACKGROUND: The Commission discussed each of these applicants. They found Ms. Brigham to be very engaged and organized. They also spoke of Ms. Perl de Pal’s professional expertise and familiarity with the Chapel Hill historic districts, having lived in the historic districts for much of her life. The Commission also spoke favorably of Polly Van De Velde’s familiarity with Town government, civic duty, and her experience serving on past boards and commissions.
Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that the Council Committee: Historic District Commission Interviews reviewed the following applications: Cathy Brigham, Kimberly Kyser, Sean Murphy, Rachel Nelson, Ann Perl De Pal, Rick Smith, John Sweet, Polly Van de Velde and Neal Wolgin. Kimberly Kyser, and Rick Smith removed their application from consideration. No other applications were received between Nov 10 and Nov 11, for the Historic District Commission.

SUBJECT: Recommendation for the vacancy(s)
DATE: November 10, 2020
RECOMMENDATION: The Council Committee: Historic District Commission Interviews met on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at noon and unanimously make the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:
• Sean Murphy, Reappointment Town Resident
• Polly Van de Velde, Appointment Town Resident
• Leave one seat vacant
SPECIAL REQUEST(s): The Committee requests that the Council leave one seat vacant, so that it may conduct further interviews. Several of the applicants couldn’t attend this meeting.
BACKGROUND: Mr. Murphy is an architect and has been a valuable member since his appointment. The Committee recommends his continued service.
Ms. Van de Velde has many years of experience reviewing designs during her service on the Community Design Commission. Her design review experience and commitment to hard work align with the Historic District Commission.
