Overview: Chapel Hill Transit was awarded a grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to develop an equitable Transit Oriented Development (E-TOD) plan and policy recommendations for the North-South Bus Rapid Transit (NSBRT) Corridor. This plan is critical to NSBRT’s continued success and advancement in the federal funding pipeline. Staff will describe progress and provide Council with a status update for this planning effort. Staff anticipates bringing the draft E-TOD Station Area Plans and Implementation Strategy to Council in January 2023.
To ensure consistency and build efficiencies across projects, staff have participated in meetings with the consultant for the Complete Community Strategy and the Planning Systems Evaluation (The Keesmaat Group) and the Transit Oriented Development Plan and LUMO Update (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill). These discussions have:
• Confirmed project scopes and principles
• Established shared baselines for analyzing data and reporting key findings
• Aligned project schedules, messaging, and engagement opportunities.
