Allen Buansi is serving in his first term on Town Council.
He grew up in Chapel Hill and attended Guy B. Phillips Middle and East Chapel Hill High School. He is currently an attorney-fellow at the UNC Center for Civil Rights. Previously, he worked at the NC Department of Justice as an attorney and policy counsel. He received his J.D. from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law and his bachelor’s degree in history from Dartmouth College.
He has served on the Town of Chapel Hill Grievance Hearing Board (formerly the Personnel Appeals Committee). Allen also provided supporting research to the Historic Rogers Road Task Force on extraterritorial jurisdiction that helped lead to the task force's recommendation for the Town of Chapel Hill to extend extraterritorial jurisdiction to the Rogers Road community. He also served on a Town subcommittee to appropriately recognize by way of a cemetery marker the enslaved people who built the University.
He has chaired the Legal Redress Committee on the Executive Board of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro branch of the NAACP. His work on the executive board included connecting aggrieved individuals to legal counsel.
Allen lives in Southern Village. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, coaching, playing basketball and spending time with family and friends.

Duties
The primary mission of the Mayor and Council, as the governing body of the Town is to adopt and provide for the execution of ordinances, rules and regulations as may be necessary or appropriate to protect health, life or property, or to promote the comfort, convenience, security, good order, better government, or the general welfare of the Town and its citizens.
The Mayor and eight Council Members constitute the governing body of the Town. In accordance with the Town’s Charter, the voters elect a Mayor every two years. Council Members are elected to four-year, staggered terms on an at-large basis. Town Council duties include:
- Amendment of previously adopted policies through changes in the Town Code of Ordinances and the Development Ordinance, and by revision of policies and documents.
- Appointment of advisory boards, commissions, task forces and committees.
- Appointment of the Town Manager and Town Attorney.
- Establishment of agreements with other governments.
