Overview: Adopting the resolution allows staff to install calming devices on North Roberson Street between West Rosemary Street and Mitchell Lane. This recommendation responds to a petition by Eugene Farrar at the March 8, 2023 Council meeting.
Recommendation(s):
That the Council adopt the resolution, authorizing staff to install traffic calming devices and related signage on North Roberson Street between West Rosemary Street and Mitchell Lane.
Key Issues:
* The Town maintains North Roberson Street.
* Residents have expressed concern about speeding in the vicinity of Hargraves Community Center.
* A March 2023 speed survey showed that 24 percent of vehicles exceeded the posted 25 mph speed limit. Two vehicles were recorded traveling 50 to 60 mph; both occurred in the 1 to 2 pm period when youth are likely to be at Hargraves Community Center.
* If authorized, staff will install plastic bollards and related signs on North Roberson Street.
* Town staff reviewed the concern and are amenable to the ordinance changes.
* Town staff will monitor conditions after installation and make revisions if necessary.
Fiscal Impact/Resources:
We estimate it will cost the Town $500 in staff time and supplies (bollards, signs), to be funded by the Traffic Engineering Division operating budget.
