MEMORANDUM

TO:               Mayor and Town Council

FROM:                      Environmental Stewardship Advisory Board

SUBJECT:      Recommendation for vacancies

DATE:                                           April 11, 2023

RECOMMENDATION: The Environmental Stewardship Advisory Board met on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 and by a unanimous 8-0 vote made the following recommendations to the Town Council for consideration:

                     Marirosa Molina, Reappointment, Regional Collaboration

                     Brian Sanders, Appointment, Town Resident

                     Boone Williams, Appointment, Town Resident

SPECIAL REQUEST(s): None.

BACKGROUND: The Board’s recommendations included the following details and reasoning about each candidate:

Marirosa Molina - Marirosa speaks truth to power, is unafraid, and consistently asks the right questions.

Brian Sanders - Brian’s 10+ years of residency in Chapel Hill and professional experience, including water, will be an asset to the board.

Boone Williams - Boone has interesting and informed ideas about energy solutions for the cogeneration plant; Boone’s real estate perspective will add diversity to the board.

While it seems that Ella Feathers will be able to continue for a second year in the UNC Student Representative seat, and although this seat is appointed by UNC Student Government, the Board wanted to recognize Ella’s contributions and has asked staff to share the following with UNC Student Government: Ella provides an important viewpoint and always keeps the Board well-informed about campus matters.

Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that Board reviewed the following applications: Pamela Cooper, John Dimos, Sara Harrington, Kunal Khaware, Marirosa Molina, Brian Sanders, Tyshunn Steele, and Boone Williams. One additional application for Robert Aris was received between April 11, 2023 and May 3, 2023 for the Environmental Stewardship Advisory Board.
