MEMORANDUM

TO: Mayor and Town Council

FROM: Environmental Stewardship Advisory Board

SUBJECT: Recommendation for vacancy

DATE: December 13, 2022

RECOMMENDATION: The Environmental Stewardship Advisory Board met on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 and by a 5-0 vote made the following recommendation to the Town Council for consideration:

* That the Council appoint Michelle Stewart to the Regional Collaboration seat.

Aye: Tom Henkel (Chair), Judy Gaitens-Arneson, Marirosa Molina, Stefan Klakovich, Lucy T Vanderkamp
Nay: Reasoning: The Board is interested in Ms. Stewart's public health experience as it relates to the work of the board and the ability to maintain a Carrboro perspective on the board, including the possibility for crosspollination with the Carrboro Environmental Advisory Board.

SPECIAL REQUEST(s): None.

BACKGROUND: The Board's recommendation for Ms. Stewart includes the following details and reasoning:

Michelle Stewart clearly expressed an interest in environmental stewardship issues and has a breadth of experience in public health. The Board would like to see continued cross-pollination with Carrboro Environmental Board, similar to Bruce Sinclair (former member).

Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that Ms. Stewart was appointed to the ESAB earlier this year and shortly thereafter elected to resign due to unanticipated personal/family reasons. More recently, Ms. Stewart reached out to inform the Board that the personal/family reasons are no longer a barrier to Board service. Up...
