Overview: The Cultural Arts Commission requested to change the Carrboro seat to a Town resident seat. The Council Committee on Boards and Commissions reviewed the request and recommends making this change.


Recommendation(s):
That the Council amend Chapter 2 Town Code of Ordinances to modify the Cultural Arts Commission membership.

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 TOWN CODE OF ORDINANCES TO MODIFY THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP. (2022-09-14/O-2)

WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Commission has a Town of Carrboro arts liaison who reliably fulfills the interest[RT1]; and

WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Commission met and voted unanimously to change the existing seat on the board held exclusively for a resident of the Town of Carrboro into a regular "at large" seat for a Chapel Hill resident.; and

WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Commission petitioned and the Council referred to the Council Committee on Boards & Commissions; and

WHEREAS, the Council Committee on Boards & Commissions met on June 27, 2022 and recommended that the Council change the Carrboro seat to a town resident seat.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that Chapter 2, Article Xlll, Section 2-177 of the Code of Ordinances, Town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Sec. 2-177. - Membership, terms.
The Chapel Hill Cultural Arts Commission shall consist of eleven (11) town residents appoint by council members, appointed as hereafter provided, ten (10) who shall be residents of the town, and one (1) who shall be a Carrboro resident. Members of the board shall be appointed in accordance wit...
