Orange County Crisis Diversion Facility Update.

body

Staff:

Department:

Loryn B. Clark, Deputy Town Manager

Manager’s Office

Christopher C. Blue, Police Chief and Executive Director for Community Safety

Police Department

Overview: The purpose of this item is to update the Council on County-wide plans for creating a Crisis Diversion Facility in Orange County.

Recommendation(s):

That the Council receive the report.

Key Issues:

                     A County-wide subcommittee, including a representative from the Town’s Crisis Unit, was charged with developing recommendations for Orange County crisis services that would facilitate diversion of individuals experiencing crisis from a hospital based emergency department or the criminal justice system.

                     Orange County staff has presented this update to the Town of Carrboro and the Orange County Board of Commissioners.

                     Development of a Crisis Diversion facility would support the prevention, crisis, and post crisis recommendations identified by the Town’s Reimagining Community Safety Task Force <https://www.townofchapelhill.org/home/showpublisheddocument/49357/637600438568470000>.

Fiscal Impact/Resources: At this time there is no fiscal impact associated with this presentation. If plans move forward, we would anticipate funding requests of the Towns and Orange County.
