MEMORANDUM

TO:                     Mayor and Town Council

FROM:                     Carolyn Fanelli, Chairperson

SUBJECT:                     Recommendation for the vacancy(s)

DATE:                     October 6, 2020

RECOMMENDATION: The Human Services Advisory Board met on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 and by a 5:1 vote made the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:

                     Carolyn Fanelli, Reappointment, Town Resident

                     Mary Andrews, Reappointment, Town Resident

SPECIAL REQUEST(s): To ensure it can review a diversity of applicants to the Board, including a very new application, the Board recommends filling only 2 of its 3 open positions at this time and waiting until its November meeting to make a recommendation for filling the third vacancy. It will invite the most recent applicant to attend that meeting, following Board's best practice of inviting applicants to a meeting to introduce themselves and ask questions about being a Board member. All other applicants in this cycle had this opportunity.

BACKGROUND: The Board recommends Carolyn Fanelli based her reliability and experience on the board, interest in creating diversity and commitment to the Town.

The Board recommends Mary Andrews based on her interest in creating diversity and her experience in the educational system.

Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that the Human Services Advisory Board reviewed the following applications: Mary Andrews, Carolyn Fanelli, Emmy Johnson, Robert Martin, Joe-Paul Paul Naughton-Travers, Kit Stanley, and Katina Welch. One (1) additional application has been received from Kakki Sellars between October 6, 2020 and October 21, 2020 for the Human Services Advisory Board.
