Virtual Meeting Voting process

The Mayor will ask a Council Committee member for a nomination.  She will then conduct a roll call vote to confirm the appointment. We provided a summary sheet like our traditional ballot for you to prepare prior to the vote. This change in process is due to Session Law 2020-3, SB 704 <https://www.ncleg.gov/Sessions/2019/Bills/Senate/PDF/S704v6.pdf>, section 166A-19.24(b)(5) states “All votes shall be roll call; no vote by secret or written ballots, whether by paper or electronic means or in accordance with G.S. 143-318.13(b), may be taken during the remote meeting.”

memorandum

to:                     Mayor and Town Council

from:                     Council OWASA Interview Committee, (Mayor pro tem Michael Parker, Council Member Hongbin Gu, Council Member Karen Stegman)

subject:                     Recommendation for the OWASA Board of Directors vacancy(s)

date:                     June 10, 2020

Recommendation:  The Council OWASA Interview Committee met on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 and by a unanimous vote made the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:

  • Deanie Anyangwe Appointment, Chapel Hill vacant seat

Special Request(s):  No Comment

Background: The Committee recommends Deanie Anyangwe because she brings a diverse skill set and experience that is not already represented on the board. She brings a public health perspective, which is different than predominate engineering skill set.

Adam Haggerty is also a strong candidate. The Council may want to give him some consideration as well.  Pamela Shultz currently serves on an advisory board, has similar technical perspectives, and the Committee is interested in providing an opportunity to another community member.

Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that the Council OWASA Interview Committee reviewed the following applications: Deanie Anyangwe, Adam Haggerty, and Pamela Schultz.  No additional applications have been received between June 10 and the June 17 for the Orange Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors.
