Fire Department

Overview: Around 2008 Safe Kids of Orange County in care of University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill and Chapel Hill Fire Department have been working together to offer a child passenger seat safety program which provides parents affordable child seats and training for their installation. The program offered a low-income purchase option to residents; however, due to the grant ending from the Governors Highway Safety Program, the Safe Kids program was no longer able to provide the purchase option. Safe Kids originally purchased the trailer and donated it to the Town to store the child passenger seats. Since we no longer have a need to store the additional seats, we no longer have a need for the trailer. We are requesting approval to donate the trailer back to Safe Kids of Orange County.

Recommendation(s):
That the Council donate the 2001 trailer back to Orange County Safe Kids in the care of the University of North Carolina Hospitals at Chapel Hill.

Decision Points:
* Does the Council want to donate the cargo trailer back to Safe Kids of Orange County?
