Planning

Bergen Watterson, Transportation Planning Manager

Overview: Council members and members of the public recently asked questions about specific bicycle and pedestrian projects and about the funding and process for implementing them. Tonight’s presentation includes:

                     status updates for current bike and pedestrian projects,

                     information about funding and the process for implementing these projects, and

                     explanation of the Franklin Street lane reallocation project, as referenced in the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership’s recent petition to Council.

Recommendation(s):

That the Council receive information on bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects.

Context:

                     ‘Making it easier to walk, bike, or take transit’ was the top priority among FLUM survey respondents.

                     Town Council Connected Community Strategic Goal strives to create a bike-pedestrian friendly community.

                     The Town Council adopted the Mobility and Connectivity Plan in October 2017, including over $40 million in proposed bike and pedestrian infrastructure projects.

                     Funding for bike-pedestrian projects is limited.
