memorandum

to:                     Mayor and Town Council

from:                                          Wesley McMahon, Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission Chair

subject:                     Recommendation for the vacancy(s)

date:                                          May 21, 2019

Recommendation:  The Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission met on May 21, 2019 and by a unanimous vote have made the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:

                     Jeanette Bench, Reappointment, Town Resident

                     William Kaiser, Appointment, Town Resident

                     Wesley McMahon, Reappointment, Town Resident

Special Request(s):  The Commission voted unanimously to not make a recommendation for the vacant Cemetery Champion seat. The applicants were notified of the meeting and invited to speak to the Commission. None of the Cemetery Champion applicants replied to multiple communications. Because the Commission did not receive responses from the applicants nor have the opportunity to meet and question the applicants in person, the Commission declined to make a recommendation.

Background: Both sitting Commission members Wesley McMahon and Jeanette Bench have been active members and have moved the agenda of the commission forward. William Kaiser has served the community in the past and has a strong background related to environmental issues that could affect trails and parks.

Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission reviewed the following applications: Jeanette Bench, Stephen Fegley, Jenny Lin Gao, William Gray, Jeff Hall, William Kaiser, Josh Levenson, James McCallion, Wesley McMahon, Muragizi Miramba, Ryan Phillips, William Rigby, Joshua Starmer, Beth Waldron, and Saijun Xue.  Beth Waldron withdrew application on May 1, 2019.  Jenny Gao withdrew application on May 2, 2019.  One (1) additional application (Amy Rose) was received between May 21, 2019 and June 3, 2019 for the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission. The following applications were withdrawn: Jenny Lin Gao, and Beth Waldron.
