Overview: On June 21, 2018, the Council received an update on the Charting Our Future Project. At that time, Council received feedback during public comment that the areas receiving in depth analysis as part of refining the Future Land Use Map Project should be expanded to include the following:

a. For Downtown area, expand the area west to the Carrboro border;
b. For NC 54 Corridor, expand the area west to 15-501;
c. In the North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard area, include both sides of Homestead Road;
d. For the South 15-501 Park and Ride area, expand to the border with Chatham County;
e. Include the Extra Territorial Jurisdictional (ETJ) area north of I-40; and,
f. Include Mt. Carmel Church Road to the Durham and Chatham County lines.
Expanding the Focus Areas in Downtown, the NC 54 Corridor, and the Homestead road areas can be accommodated without negatively affecting the Project schedule and budget
Adding the additional territory in the South 15-501 corridor, the ETJ north of I-40, and along Mt. Carmel Church Road will require additional staff and consultant time as well as financial resources to accomplish due to the nature and extent of the planning questions that must be addressed in these areas.

Recommendation(s):
That the Council receive an update on expanding the scope of the Future Land Use Map Refinement Project.
Key Issue:
How should these additional areas be incorporated into the Charting Our Future Project and what are the implications of doing so? When does this decision need to be made to have minimal impact on project schedule and activity?

Fiscal Impact/Resources: Fiscal impact and resource analysis is underway and additional information will be provided to Council before June 27.
