memorandum

to:                     Mayor and Town Council

from:                     Brian W. Sturm, Library Board of Trustees Chair

subject:                     Recommendation for the Library Board of Trustees vacancies

date:                     Monday, May 14, 2018

Recommendation:  The Library Board of Trustees met on Monday, May 14, 2018, and by a Unanimous vote have made the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:

Nicole Klett, reappointment, Seat 8 (first full term after completing a partial term)

Christopher L. Beale, appointment, Seat 6 (first full term to replace Brian Sturm)

Special Request(s): None

Background: We always seek to add more diversity to our Board, but our one racially diverse candidate withdrew.  Brian met with her over coffee to see about recruiting her back to the pool, but she is new to Chapel Hill and wanted to settle in before committing to run for the Board.  We hope she will reapply in the future.

Note: Communications and Public Affairs notes that the Library Board of Trustees reviewed the following applications: Christopher Beale, Nicole Klett, and Rachel Mills.  Hoi Ning Ngai withdrew her application on April 20th, 2018.  No additional applications were received between May 14, 2018 and June 4, 2018.
