body

ACTION/DECISION POINTS*

Council must approve or reject the amendment to Section 14-68 of the Town Code.

LEGISLATIVE CONTEXT*

NCGS 160A-174 provides for the creation of ordinances through enactment by Council. Creations, modifications, and/or deletions are required to be presented to Council for approval.

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT*

Veterans Day, observed on November 11th, honors those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Many states and municipalities across the country, including several in North Carolina, recognize this day as a holiday. Designating November 11th as a Town-recognized holiday aligns with these practices and demonstrates the Town’s commitment to honoring veterans.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

This modification adds an additional observed Town holiday. Overtime costs associated with an official Town holiday are primarily related to the holiday pay for employees who must work during the holiday.
