Overview: The Mayor’s Southern Area Focus Group met twice (October 8 and November 4, 2019) and outlined some key issues to explore regarding their charge: “to provide input and recommendations related to redevelopment of the Southern Village Park and Ride lot and adjacent parcels.” The full charge and scope are attached, along with the list of invited participants.
The Group will provide recommendations similar to the general level of the Aspirations and Principles provided in the Obey Creek Compass Committee Report <https://www.townofchapelhill.org/home/showdocument?id=28399>.

Recommendation(s): |
That the Council receive this update.
Key Issues:
• The Group has met twice. Meeting 1 provided background and discussion regarding the Group’s charge. Meeting 2 included a robust discussion and tentative agreement on a goal and objectives for the group consistent with the Council charge.
• Future meetings will explore physical planning such as block sizes, building footprints, connectivity, etc.
Fiscal Impact/Resources: Staff resources and time to support the focus group.
Where is this item in its process?
The Mayor granted the Focus Group an extension to their original November 20th deadline. The Focus Group anticipates completing their work in February 2020.
