STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommend Council adopt a resolution authorizing staff to dispose of appliances from public housing units.
body
ACTION/DECISION POINTS
Council must authorize or deny the disposal of appliances.
LEGISLATIVE CONTEXT
Federal law requires the board of a public housing authority authorize the disposal of any appliance. Town Council serves as the board for the Chapel Hill Public Housing Authority and therefore must authorize this disposal.
BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
In the fall of 2024, Affordable Housing and Community Connections Maintenance staff completed appliance upgrades in various public housing communities. These upgrades involved the replacement of outdated appliances, consistent with our ongoing effort to upgrade and improve the safety of our public housing units. These appliances were removed and must be discarded. The discarded appliances will be auctioned off in accordance with the Towns surplus policy and any revenue generated will return to the Public Housing Fund.
