Fire

Overview: Chapel Hill Fire Rescue provides fire and emergency medical response in southern Orange County outside the town boundary. Orange County Emergency Services provides an annual payment to the Town for these services. The previous agreement has expired, and this item authorizes the Town to enter into an additional 6-year agreement for these services.

Recommendation(s):
That the Council authorize the town manager to enter into an agreement with Orange County Emergency Services to provide fire and emergency medical services to the unincorporated area previously identified as the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Service District.

Fiscal Impact/Resources: Orange County collects taxes in this area. The portion of those taxes that are for fire and emergency medical services is batched and sent to the town as an annual payment. These payments average $285,000 per year at the current tax rate depending on the amount of taxes successfully collected.
