Overview: On October 2, 2019, the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission (PGRC) petitioned the Town Council to reconsider designating a Cemetery Champion Seat on the Commission due to challenges filling the seat and the belief that appointed members are capable of fulfilling the goal of representing cemetery interests without a designated seat.
Recommendation(s):
That the Council enact the ordinance to amend Chapter 12, Article II of the Town Code of Ordinances to modify the Membership and Charge of the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission with regard to the Cemeteries Champion Seat and interests.
Key Issues: The Council Committee on Boards and Commissions met on February 18, 2020. The Committee recognized that the Town is not expanding the Town's Cemeteries and that much of the focus is on the maintenance of current properties, which is a function under the Town Manager's purview, and enhanced by the PGRC's recommendations. The Committee understood the challenges with maintaining a Champion seat.
