AGENDA ITEM EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ITEM TITLE*

title

Appointments to the Historic District Commission

presenter

RESPONSIBLE STAFF, TITLE, DEPARTMENT*

Sabrina Oliver, Town Clerk/Director, Governance Services Department

ACTION/DECISION POINTS, INCLUDING STAFF RECOMMENDATION*

Council must make appointments to fill the two empty seats on the Historic District Commission (HDC). Staff recommends that Council review the recommendations and vote.

body

LEGISLATIVE CONTEXT*

Town Ordinance Appendix A, Article 8, Section 8.4 describes the Historic District Commission, and the Advisory Board Membership Policy describes the appointment process.

TRADEOFFS, ALTERNATIVES, IMPACTS

The appointment process includes a recommendation by a council interview committee. Most Council members are unavailable the week between the HDC recommendation and the next available Council meeting.

If Council decides not to appoint anyone to the Historic District Commission, then the commission will continue to have difficulty reaching a quorum for the meetings and acting.

Given that Council members are unavailable and concerns about the ability to get interviews done, and the urgency that the HDC has expressed in making those appointments, staff is providing the opportunity for Council to continue.
