LEGISLATIVE CONTEXT*
General Statute § 143-318.12: Public notice of official meetings. “If a public body has established, by ordinance, resolution, or otherwise, a schedule of regular meetings, it shall cause a current copy of that schedule, showing the time and place of regular meetings, to be kept on file…”
The Town Charter Sec. 3.3 and the Town Code Sec. 2-3. state that the Council shall fix suitable times for its regular meetings.
BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT*
In accordance with the Open Meetings Law, public bodies are required to provide advance notice of all meetings. This includes the obligation to file a schedule of regular meetings in a central and accessible location, ensure compliance with public notice requirements, and promotes transparency in local government operations.
The proposed 2026 Council meeting schedule amendment includes all scheduled meetings of the Council in addition to the following:
• The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro Annual Meeting - February 26, 2026 at 4 p.m.
• Legislative Breakfast - April 16, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.
