LEGISLATIVE CONTEXT*

Development regulations adopted under the Town’s planning and zoning authority must be adopted by ordinance. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 160D-601.

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT*

The Town is rewriting its Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO) for the first time in over 20 years. Staff expect to share a draft of the updated LUMO this summer.

Council members have expressed interest in a framework for reviewing and discussing the updated LUMO.

COMPLETE COMMUNITY CONNECTION

The LUMO Update is an opportunity to implement various elements of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, with the Complete Community at the forefront. The key interests identified by staff are directly related to the Complete Community Framework.
