BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT*
Staff from the Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TWTPO) will provide an informational presentation about the development of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP): Destination 2055, which was adopted by the TPO Board in February 2026. Destination 2055 is the region's long-range transportation plan, developed in partnership with the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and with the support of Central Pines Regional Planning Council. The plan is fiscally constrained and outlines future transportation investments across the region over the next 30 years. The MTP also includes population and employment growth projections and associated transportation network needs, air quality data, and transportation-related goals for the region. Many federal funding streams require that projects are in an adopted MTP.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan has no financial impact on the Town. Projects within the MTP, if ultimately federally funded, may require a local match, though inclusion in the MTP does not guarantee funding.
