RECOMMENDATION: The Justice In Action Committee met on Thursday, June 1 at 6:30pm and by a unanimous vote made the following recommendation(s) to the Town Council for consideration:

 

                     Danielle Anderson, Appointment, Outside of Chapel Hill or Carrboro planning jurisdictions

                     Ty Chapman, Appointment, Chapel Hill or Carrboro planning jurisdiction

                     Tyshunn Steele, Appointment, Outside of Chapel Hill or Carrboro planning jurisdictions

 

 

SPECIAL REQUEST(s):  We kindly request that Council allows us to keep the remaining three “Chapel Hill or Carrboro planning jurisdiction” seats vacant. This strategic action is part of our commitment to promoting equitable engagement and encouraging participation from diverse individuals in various advisory boards. By keeping these seats open, we aim to create opportunities for individuals who align with our goals and bring diverse perspectives to the decision-making process. This approach will support our ongoing efforts to foster a more inclusive and representative community.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

                     Danielle Anderson’s exceptional leadership skills, community involvement, and extroverted nature make them highly motivated and capable of achieving high levels of success.

 

                     Ty Chapman’s broad range of leadership experience and active involvement in multiple community groups advocating for marginalized populations highlight their dedication to social equity and their ability to effectively advocate for underrepresented individuals.

 

                     Tyshunn Steele’s experience in promoting diversity, deep knowledge of different cultures and perspectives, and their work in mental health rehabilitation demonstrate their valuable understanding of bias and their commitment to inclusivity.
