Overview: The 1995 Annexation Boundary Agreement between the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro has lapsed and is proposed to be renewed without any changes.

Recommendation(s): |
That the Council adopt a resolution to schedule a hearing to consider the annexation boundary agreement on April 19, 2023.
Background:
As part of the Joint Planning Agreement between the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and Orange County, the Towns agreed upon an annexation boundary. The agreement was approved in 1995 and the 20-year term has lapsed.
We anticipate the Town of Carrboro conducting a parallel review of the agreement with a tentative hearing date of April 18, 2023.

A RESOLUTION CALLING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR CONSIDERATION OF AN ANNEXATION BOUNDARY AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE TOWNS OF CHAPEL HILL AND CARRBORO ON APRIL 19, 2023 (2023-03-22/R-6)
WHEREAS, the Annexation Boundary Agreement authorized by (95-06-26/R-5a) between the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro has lapsed; and
WHEREAS, the Towns desire to renew the lapsed agreement with no changes to the agreed upon boundary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council will hold a public hearing on the annexation boundary agreement between the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro on April 19, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Town Hall Council Chamber, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that notice of said hearing shall be published in accordance with N.C.G.S. Sec. 160A-58.24(c) as provided in G.S. 160A-31(c).
