Overview: On October 24, 2018 <https://chapelhill.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=3707429&GUID=2849B6B0-3281-4615-B592-69BCF7349655&Options=&Search=>, the Town Council adopted a resolution establishing the Varsity Theatre Task Force with Council Members Rachel Schaevitz and Michael Parker appointed as Task Force Co-Chairs. The Task Force’s charge was to consider the possible use of the Varsity Theatre at 123 East Franklin Street as a community performing arts center. The purpose of this item is to provide the Council with the Task Force’s findings and recommendations, which are included in the attached report.

That the Council adopt the resolution to accept the Task Force’s report, authorize the Town Manager to consider next steps, and dissolve the Task Force.

A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT THE REPORT OF THE VARSITY THEATRE TASK FORCE, AUTHORIZE THE TOWN MANAGER TO CONSIDER NEXT STEPS, AND DISSOLVE THE TASK FORCE (2019-06-26/R-4)
WHEREAS, the Chapel Hill Town Council established the Varsity Theatre Task Force on October 24, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force was charged with considering the possible use of the Varsity Theatre at 123 East Franklin Street as a community performing arts center; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force has conducted research, contributed expertise, and responded to specific questions from the Council in order to fulfill the Task Force’s charge; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force has provided a report of its work for the Council’s consideration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council accepts the report of the Varsity Theatre Task Force and authorizes the Town Manager to review the report and consider next steps.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council thanks Task Force members and Task Force Co-Chairs, Council Members Rachel Schaevitz and Michael Parker, for their commitment and contribution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council finds that the Task Force has fulfilled its charge, its work is deemed complete and the Task Force is dissolved.
